Oxford Blue is the official colour of the University of Oxford.[ane] The official Oxford branding guidelines prepare its definition as Pantone 282, equivalent to the hex code #002147.[two]

With a hue code of 212, this colour is a very nighttime tone of azure.

Usage [edit]

Oxford Blue stems from the University of Oxford'southward combined-colleges (whole-academy) leading sport teams, thus including Oxford Blues (showtime sides) and Half-Blues (2nd sides). In UK rowing blades but of that colour designate those sides. All the same it is one of the bract colours of Ardingly, Bristol Ariel, Urban center of Oxford, Island of Ely, Sudbury, Torquay, and Hatfield College (Durham) clubs, Dragon Schoolhouse (Oxford) and as to Oxford colleges, most notably: Oriel and Green Templeton.[3] The color (or a very close variant said to exist the same) is used by the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League; Wycombe Wanderers F.C.; and universities unremarkably known as Toronto,;[four] Penn Land;[five] Georgetown;[6] Michigan (equally to many athletics teams);[7] and Berkeley.[eight]

Origin [edit]

The colour was originally chosen by Charles Wordsworth and Thomas Garnier, two members of the 1829 Boat Race crew using "the Christ Church guernsey as our pattern (four of the crew being Christ Church men), only with a broader and darker blueish, instead of blackness stripe. Hence the origin of the 'Dark Blues'."[nine] The colour itself is said to have been borrowed from Harrow Blue, which Charles Wordsworth and Charles Merivale, the creators of The Boat Race, attended. Similarly, Cambridge Blue is said to have derived from Eton blue.
